Apple Doesn't Get Web 2.0

Actually, a quibble: iWeb gained blog comment support in a 1.x revision (1.1 I think). It's no WordPress / MoveableType / Blogger / Vox / etc, but on the other hand it does allow blog visitors to add comments, and the captcha support seems effective at filtering out the comment spam that seems standard these days on the more common blog platforms...

Chris: oh, thanks for that. I should have checked that didn't sneak in, but I can't use iWeb; I develop templates not pages, generally, and it (and, from what I've seen, every other web design app) doesn't cope well with single pages rather than entire sites. Still, I think my general point stands, despite the launch of some embeddable iTunes widgets today.
Sure, I just think it fills a niche role well -- letting average, non-technical people get a nice site up & running quickly, and allowing visitors to comment on it. I probably could get into templates etc, but I don't have the time or the inclination to do so, and that's even more the case for my wife, who hasn't had a web site since Geocities days several years ago. But with iWeb, and some minimal effort, we've been able to get up a nice little site for our son that relatives can look at, comment about the pictures, etc. There are gobs of people out there that this would seem a perfect fit for...
I think it is important to see that Web 2.0 suits a lot of people very well, but for the occasional user, who generates content that they'd want to share on the web focused around events, then as Chris Devers says tools like iWeb work really well. They get the content off their machine in a seamless manner and make webpages which look pretty and polished.
It may not be 1999 anymore, but for a lot of people they don't have the energy. nor the desire to maintain presence in several web 2.0 community spaces, eg facebook, flickr or vox. They want to be able to say here are my son's birthday pictures and leave it at that.
Obvious point I know, but one that it is easy to miss on the way to check twitter.
